Capital Equipment Threshold increases July 1

In the most recent revision to the Federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) in April 2024, the threshold for capital equipment was updated from $5,000 to $10,000. Grantee organizations like Duke University can only use this new threshold once approved as part of our F&A rate agreement. Duke's August 2024 F&A rate agreement allows the application of the new $10K equipment threshold on all projects starting on or after July 1, 2025. To support this change, the programming in Buy@Duke has been adjusted to continue the $5K threshold for all sponsored awards with a project period start date before 7/1/2025; all other Buy@Duke shopping carts will default to the $10K equipment threshold.

If you are in an exceptional circumstance and are initiating or reviewing a purchase or allocation of capital equipment to a sponsored project outside of Buy@Duke, please be cognizant of the project period's start date and use the $10K threshold for all awards with a project period start date of 7/1/2025 or later.
