Community Engaged Research: Two new resources to help navigate administrative processes

The Partnering for Effective Research Collaborations (PERC) initiative, a university-wide effort to address administrative barriers to Community-Engaged Research (CEnR) announces the PERC Community of Practice (COP) and several new resources, housed on a dedicated Sharepoint site.

• PERC-COP MS Teams Site: Research teams and administrators are encouraged to join this Team to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing. This Teams site provides access to the resource below.
• PERC-COP Resources: Via a dedicated Sharepoint site, the COP offers reference materials to support Duke research teams in navigating administrative processes related to CEnR. Examples of resources, which focus on compensation processes, include:
• The Compensating Stakeholders Decision Tree, which guides through Duke Finance General Accounting Principles for community partner compensation
• Procuring Services, which outlines required documentation for various purchase types
• Independent Contractor Checklist (ICC) examples tailored for community partners
• Guidance on Purchase Orders for International Vendors
• Links to myRESEARCHpath CEnR resources and other relevant Duke tools
• Questions to consider when engaging with community partners to facilitate the compensation process
• A comparison table of five payment methods for research participant compensation, highlighting advantages and considerations
