Now in effect: Expedited central review for small, low-risk travel grants
Effective October 2, the Office of Research Administration, the Office of Research Support, and the Office of Research Contracts will no longer perform central-level pre-submission review for small, low-risk travel grants. This effort aims to increase efficiency and help reduce delays in proposal review.
Travel grants that meet the following criteria are considered small and low-risk and are eligible for this expedited process:
- Funding is from a non-federal source.
- Total funding is $10,000 or less.
- Awards are for the sole purpose of attending domestic conferences, scientific meetings, seminars, or similar events.
- The award does not require voluntary cost sharing or other matching of funds.
- The sponsor does not require institutional review, signature, or submission by a sponsored research official.
For those small, low-risk travel grants that qualify, it will no longer be necessary to:
- Submit proposals and route SPS records to central pre-award offices five days in advance of submission deadlines.
- Complete an Intent to Submit (I2S) form.
- Undergo new PI Onboarding (for applicable individuals).
- Submit a Late Waiver request, if it would have been required.
- Submit a request for an F&A Waiver.
Please refer to myRESEARCHpath for more details on the requirements for qualifying as a small, low-risk travel grant and instructions on preparing and managing these opportunities.
