How to Confirm if an Individual or Company are on the Excluded Parties List (Department Responsibility)

1. Access the federal government’s exclusion verification database at: sam.gov and follow these instructions to search by the individual’s social security number.  If you do not have access to the SSN (may need to work with HR), the Export Control office can assist with running the person through their software to verify. 
2.   Let your ORA/ORS Research Administrator (RA) know that you have confirmed that the Duke individual is or is not the person listed, and provide the confirmation (from the instructions above) to them.
3.   ORA/ORS will send the response to NIH, notifying NIH that our individual(s) are not “presently debarred, suspended or otherwise excluded from participating in Federally funded grant projects.”
4. If the individual is on a subaward, the verification must come from their SO.
