Prepare for institutional approvals

Need assistance with institutional approvals?

Research activities at Duke typically require review and approval by various offices and groups. Some reviews are required by federal agencies, some are required by the institution, but all are intended to ensure that Duke’s research is safe, efficient, and feasible. Knowing in advance which approvals are required of your research can help reduce delays and frustration. Learn more about what is meant by institutional approval.

The "related resources" on this page provide policies and guidance regarding various institutional approvals. Utilize the "Customize Your Path" feature to tailor these resources to your project inclusions and oversight.

Tracking institutional approval for industry sponsored clinical trials

You can track the progress of industry sponsored clinical trials awaiting institutional approval in myRESEARCHhome. See the approval statuses for the contract from Innovate, budget & calendar from OnCore, and IRB protocol from iRIS all at once. This information can be found in the ‘Portfolio’ widget alongside your other research projects.

Visit mrh.duke.edu to view the statuses of steps in the Institutional Approval process for your projects or learn more in the quick reference guide. For questions and help, see the troubleshooting and FAQs.
