iLab@Duke News

January 2026:

CoreResearch@Duke Platform Migration Process Begins

We are excited to announce the transition of CoreResearch@Duke to the Agilent iLab platform. Like CoreResearch, the iLab system (iLab@Duke) will be responsible for managing requests, reservations, and financial transactions for Duke’s Core Facilities and Service Centers. Some information about this product can be found on Agilent’s website. This transition will take place in small waves over the next 18-24 months with active CoreResearch users being notified as the Cores and Service Centers (SCs) they rely on are preparing to migrate to the new system.

Web content and resources will continue being added as the transition progresses. For questions, please email researchresources@dm.duke.edu.

Why the Change?

LabVantage has decided to discontinue development and support for critical components of the CoreResearch system.  To ensure the continuity of Duke’s research support infrastructure, a new vendor was selected to manage reservations, transactions, support, and reporting moving forward.

What to Expect with Agilent iLab

Agilent iLab provides a robust alternative that aligns with Duke’s operational needs and is widely used at other institutions. Some business processes will be modified in the new system, and we are working with Agilent to support Cores and Service Centers (SCs), and users during the implementation phase. As part of this support, Agilent will offer comprehensive training materials, and we will create supplemental guides to ensure a smooth transition.

Implementation Process

The first wave of SCs kicked off their onboarding process on January 16th. Over the next few months, these SCs will complete a series of training and platform management activities to prepare for the transition. During this time, the iLab@Duke system will go through the final stages of development before the official launch in April 2026. Implementation for the second wave is currently slated to begin in May. This timeline is subject to change as we go through the onboarding process. We expect future waves to become shorter as the primary system development comes to a close and the onboarding process is refined and improved.

Next Steps

In the coming months, we will provide updated communications to keep everyone informed about changes and the transition timeline. As with any transition, there will be challenges, but we are committed to working through them and we are confident that Agilent iLab will effectively meet Duke’s needs. As they become available, resources and updates will be posted to this page.

We thank you for your partnership and patience as we move through this change together.
